Veterans
Day
Veterans
Day is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in
the U.S. Armed Forces. Veterans Day
originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the
end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual
observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. Veterans
Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day–a common misunderstanding,
according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Memorial Day (the fourth
Monday in May) honors American service members who died in service to their
country or as a result of injuries incurred during battle, while Veterans Day
pays tribute to all American veterans–living or dead–but especially gives
thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or
peacetime.
Reflection:
Well
first of all I want to thank all those men and women who have and are serving
our country thanks to them and god were safe. They are our heroes their brave enough
to risks their own life to save their families and ours. Just if you put
yourself in their shoes it really hard knows that every single day you wake up
you have an opportunity to die and to not see your family ever again. Also the
fact that they have to be killing other human beings is horrendous but that’s sadly
how this world is. Hopefully one day we would live peacefully and people won’t
have to sacrifice their own lives to safe ours. But either way in my head doesn’t
make sense how your own specie could be killing each other. But at the same time
it does. So it is what it is, and in this case us that aren’t doing what they
are doing have to be thankful and do as much possible to honor them.
